WELCOME TO SKYDIVE PEPPERELL!
Please read this to familiarize yourself with dropzone policy. Our staff wants to make sure your stay with us is one of the best times you’ve ever had. If you have any special needs, please feel free to ask any staff member for assistance. We are here to make sure you have a great time. HAVE FUN!
The Parachute Shop, a full service loft and gear store, is located behind the Manifest office for all your skydiving needs. Owner Don Mayer is a Master Rigger and the Designated Rigger Examiner for New England. Stop in and say hello!
AADs ARE REQUIRED!
If you haven’t jumped at Pepperell this year, please check in at the Manifest office on the deck south of the main hangar. You will need to fill out a waiver for the current year. Bring your logbook, USPA membership card, and your packing data card with you. Jumpers without a USPA license will have to jump under the immediate supervision of a USPA instructional rating holder.
Foreign jumpers: you must be a current member of your National Aero Club and hold an “A” license or higher. All equipment must be maintained to standard of your National Aero Club. Be sure to bring your logbooks, ratings, FAI card and/or USPA membership card. If you do not have a license you will have to be cleared by our staff Instructor/Examiner.
If this is your first visit, we will be happy to have one of our staff review the aerial photo with you so you can get the “lay of the land”.
Also at check in, you should let Manifest know your method of payment. We accept cash, personal checks, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express. Sorry, we do not have open accounts; all jumps must be paid for prior to jumping.
Manifesting can be done individually or as a group. Please be sure you are packed and ready to go prior to manifesting.
Double manifesting is not allowed unless you have multiple, packed rigs.
Skydive Pepperell offers free load organizing on weekends and holidays. If you would like to get on an organized load, we will be happy to introduce you to the LO!
If you would like one-on-one training, please let manifest know and we will find an instructor or coach to work with you!
BOARDING – TAKEOFF – EXITING (how to keep the pilot happy)
Please be in the boarding area at the five minute call. The LO will determine the correct exit order and board the jumpers accordingly. The exit order generally is:
- Tracking dives
- Flat flyers
- Hybrid dives
- Tandems (if not out first on first pass)
- Wingsuit flyers
- CRW jumpers
The LO is the loading BOSS. Please cooperate and help make boarding go as smoothly and quickly as possible.
All gear must be on and secured before passing the fence line.
Always approach aircraft from the rear. Board quickly, take your seat, and properly fasten your seatbelt and secure all items – it’s the law. Helmets must be properly fastened and worn on your head during take-off and landing or they must be secured with a seatbelt.
Seatbelts must remain on until 1000 feet AGL.
Keep movement inside the aircraft to a minimum.
Treat the jump door gently; no slamming open or closed!
Spotting in the Otter is done by the pilot via GPS. Red light = one minute prior; open door, check jump run. Green light = check for traffic, clouds, etc. then exit.
OPENING – UNDER CANOPY – LANDING (how to keep the S&TA happy)
The HARD DECK at Pepperell is 2,000 feet AGL. You are not allowed to open above 3,500 feet AGL unless manifest, the pilot, and the LO are informed prior to takeoff.
On busy weekends, when many canopies are open and flying to the landing area, please keep your head on a swivel and be aware of other jumpers in your area. Follow the day’s pattern, downwind-base-final. Low canopies have the right of way.
HOOK TURNS ARE NOT ALLOWED
When the winds are calm, follow the traffic flow.
Swooping the packing area, or landing inside of it, is not allowed. It is marked by a line of windblades that is commonly called the “Beer Line”. Landing in this area on a busy weekend will cost you a case of beer or soda (and a large iced coffee with extra sugar for the DZO) before you can jump again.
Landings off the airport: please be careful. We have good relations with our neighbors; please don’t be the one to mess it up! Be polite, no swearing. We will send a vehicle out to get you right away. Please do not walk on Route 111; the traffic is fast and dangerous.
Safety is more than just following rules and guidelines, its ATTITUDE. You, the jumper, are the most important person at Skydive Pepperell. Use good judgment. We want you to have a good time and loads of fun, but not at the expense of being unsafe. Fellow jumpers, spectators, and possibly the media and the FAA may be watching, so please conduct yourself properly at all times while on the airport grounds.
Don’t jump beyond your experience. Always do your own gear check.
Check your fellow jumpers and their equipment. If something doesn’t look right, you be the one to say something. Don’t leave it up to someone else.
Dirt dive your jump and your break off. Plan your dive…dive your plan. Remember the hard deck at Pepperell is 2,000 feet AGL; this is opening altitude, not break off altitude.
GENERAL AIRPORT STUFF
